Most of my art pieces are made from paper from discarded books and magazines. I often enhance my art with acrylic paint and other media.
After selecting my papers, I alter them in some way, depending on the visual effect I’m going for. This involves tearing or cutting paper into shapes, or weaving, kneading, or painting the paper. It’s amazing what you can do with a simple piece of paper!
Next comes gluing the papers down onto a board, canvas, or other surface. This part is a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle. I start with a mountain of little bits, fit them together piece by piece, and hope that they resemble the picture I was aiming for!
To finish, I cover the entire painting with coats of transparent acrylic medium and varnish. This holds all the papers together, and protects the artwork from moisture, dust, and light.
I hope you enjoy looking through some examples of my paper and acrylic artworks below.
